MY DYING BRIDE Guitarist Talks About Possibility Of U.S. Tour
October 11, 2006Kevin Page of MetalReview.com recently interviewed guitarist Andrew Craighan of MY DYING BRIDE. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
MetalReview.com: You've had a sixteen-year relationship with Peaceville. Have you ever had the opportunity to go elsewhere?
Andrew: Every time. Every contract renewal we have a couple of record labels chasing us, including Peaceville. We always talk to the new label and then talk to Peaceville. We're not stupid, we're looking for best deal for the band. Every time Peaceville always comes back with the best deal.
MetalReview.com: You're not under contract currently, correct?
Andrew: We're free and single right now (laughs). We're talking to a label in Germany, Peaceville and another label as well. We haven't advertised this fact. We believe we just released a great record and are in no rush to resign with anyone, as we want things on our own terms. We'll sign to the one that delivers the best thing for MY DYING BRIDE.
MetalReview.com: What do you feel Peaceville has offered MY DYING BRIDE that other labels haven't or couldn't?
Andrew: We tend to trust them. They give us complete freedom on our musical and artistic outlook. They simply believe in us. Whereas the other labels, who are now interested in the band, they don't show the same kind of artistic freedom sometimes. Peaceville is almost perfect for us, because we don't want to be fucked about with. We don't want people telling us how or what should be done. Peaceville are into the music. They believe MY DYING BRIDE are something special and proud they helped bring us to the world. They are keen to keep it that way. They have a vested interest in us, we're their blonde haired blue eyed boy. For us to wander off would be an insult almost. But they also know that as much of it is business for them, it's business for us too.
MetalReview.com: Any chance in hell you'll tour the USA in support of the new album?
Andrew: In hell, yes (laughs). But we don't tour in that manner. I strongly suspect something like one or two gigs and they'll be exclusive. It's getting to the point that we can't avoid the fact that the USA and South America are really really keen now. I think something in 2007 is going to happen. I strongly believe this. The gigs will be very special. But it won't be a tour like other bands as we work for a living and we want to keep it that way.
